Our Mission and Values

Nature activities, forest school and ecotherapy sessions for all, set in the beautiful Brecon Beacons. Founded by Ceri Elms of Elms Wellbeing and Claire Prosser of Black Mountains Forest School.

Community Engagement

Engaging the community is at the core of our mission. We believe in the power of collective action and grassroots initiatives to involve individuals of all ages in our nature-focused projects and campaigns. By building a strong community network, we can amplify our efforts and drive meaningful change.

Youth Empowerment Programs

Empowering the younger generation is central to our ethos. We provide educational campaigns and hands-on nature experiences that engage and educate youth on the importance of environmental conservation. By nurturing a love for nature and sustainability in young minds, we ensure a brighter, greener future for our planet.

Terms & Conditions

General

Our priority is to ensure that all children and parents/carers who attend our sessions and parties can do so in a fun and relaxed but also safe and secure environment. These terms and conditions apply to all groups and school sessions, birthday parties and private bookings hosted by Wild Child Brecon Beacons and its representatives of Elms Wellbeing and Black Mountains Forest School.

All equipment remains the property of Wild Child. Any loss or damage to Wild Child equipment or property caused by guests or attendees will be subject to charge to the booker.

Please be prepared that children will likely get muddy and wet and some messy play activities may stain clothing. A change of clothes for after sessions is recommended.

For sessions where children may attend without an accompanying adult, we expect children to adhere to our behaviour policy of kindness, respect and safety. Wild Child reserve the right to remove a child or adult if negative, abusive or unsafe behaviour persists – the parent/carer will be contacted and must collect their child as soon as possible in this instance.

Wild Child takes no liability for any dirt, damage or loss to clothing or personal property during a session/party with us.

We accept no responsibility for any injury sustained during our sessions or parties.

Bookings and Payment

Full payment for sessions, programmes or courses is payable upon booking on our bookwhen page.

Booking & Payments for Parties/Private Sessions:

On confirmation of booking, customers will be invoiced for the full amount of the party for the agreed number of children.  Invoice is payable in full within 28 days, at least 20 days before the date of the party.

We will try (but cannot guarantee) to accommodate additional attendees if we are notified at least 72 hours in advance of the event which will be charged for each additional guest (1 child plus 1 adult) at a rate of £20 for a 1.5 hour session. For longer or shorter sessions, the additional rate will be calculated accordingly based on this rate.  If additional attendees are requested after 72 hours prior to the event or on the day, we may not be able to accommodate them, if we can the charge will increase to £30 per 1 child/1 adult.

If payment is not received in full by the date stated on the invoice as per the terms above, the booking will not be confirmed, and the party may be cancelled – this will be at the discretion of Wild Child. If payment is not made by 72 hours before the party date, the party will be cancelled, and any future bookings will not be considered.

Cancellations and refunds

Cancellation by customer:

Bookings cancelled after payment has been taken will not be entitled to a refund but may be offered a transfer on to a suitable term or session if applicable. This will be at the discretion of Wild Child.

A transfer, if possible, will only be offered once.

No refunds will be given for not attending the session or term whether due to illness or other reason.

Cancellation by Wild child or our representatives listed above:

In the event of circumstances outside of our control pertaining to adverse/ extreme weather (yellow weather warning and above, thunderstorms, and if the Met office weather forecast shows a predicted wind speed (gust or continual speed) of 35 mph or above for any part of the session, or snow making public roads impassable), or site damage, or Covid restrictions/lockdown requirements returning where it would be unsafe for the session/s to go ahead in the outdoor location, a transfer to an alternative date will be proposed.

If a suitable reschedule date cannot be agreed by both customer and Wild Child, a refund then be given.

In the unlikely event of the party being cancelled by Wild Child for reasons not pertaining to unsafe weather conditions, site damage or covid/lockdown restrictions, a full refund will be issued unless the customer wants to transfer the booking to an alternative date, if applicable.

For all bookings, the liability of Wild Child shall be limited to the amount of the fee actually paid to us by the customer.

Refunds & cancellations for Parties/Private Sessions:

Bookings cancelled after payment has been taken will not be entitled to a refund but may be offered a reschedule or transfer date if possible. This reschedule will be subject to a 20% (of total party fee) cancellation/date transfer fee at the discretion of Wild Child.

If a reschedule cannot be agreed, the customer will incur a 100% fee.

No refunds will be given for guests who do not attend the party or group session.

No refunds are given due to illness by the customer.

In extenuating circumstances, party bookings may be moved to future dates, but we ask that you contact us directly and this will be at our discretion and may be subject to the 20% cancellation/date transfer fee.

Any party package moved to a future date forfeits the right for any refund for the rearranged date.

Health & Safety

Full risk assessments are completed for each activity and site, if you would like to see a copy of our policies and procedures, please contact us. A daily dynamic Risk Assessment is undertaken of the site prior to running any sessions.

As all our sessions are held outdoors in a woodland/field area is a natural and ever-changing environment, therefore there may be hazards such as branches, sticks, roots, uneven ground, rocks and mud.

Every effort is made to reduce risk and ensure the woodland and its contents are as safe as possible. However, the nature of an outdoor setting means that a degree of risk remains. It is your responsibility to support the child/ren in your care and supervise them as they play and stay vigilant. If you see something of concern or notice any damage to equipment during the session, please notify us immediately.

We have a strict safety code: please don’t pick or lick anything on site unless under supervision by a Wild Child leader or qualified guest forager. Thank you.

We have Public Liability Insurance; please contact us for current details.

Participating in a Wild Child session or party is entirely at your own risk without any proven negligence, breach of duty of care or lack of due diligence by Wild Child.

Do not come to a session or party if you, your child or anyone accompanying you, are experiencing an infectious disease or contagious illness such as conjunctivitis, chicken pox, vomiting or diarrhoea or are experiencing COVID symptoms. There must be at least 48 hours clearance from these symptoms to attend.

First aid and medicines

Wild Child party leaders carry emergency first aid equipment.

In the event of an injury, you agree to the Wild Child leader to administer the necessary first aid needed on yourself or your child/ren. You also agree to sign and document the accident/incident in the Wild Child accident book.

The customer must inform us of any additional needs, medical conditions, or allergies relevant to a woodland forest school session/party for any guests.

Please inform us in advance of any adjustments that may need to be made to support children/adults with additional needs within your booking.

If you/your child suffers from any allergies or medical conditions, then it is vital that you inform us in advance so that we can plan accordingly as we may use foodstuffs as part of the sensory and messy play activities at the sessions. It is your responsibility to ensure that your child does not come into contact with anything that may cause him/her to suffer an allergic reaction. If you have any concerns about allergies and intolerances, then please contact us to discuss as we are able to adapt our sessions and materials to accommodate if we know in advance.

Group leaders will not administer routine medicines. This is the responsibility of the customer or parents in attendance or the child if attending an after-school club.

For sessions where Adults are Accompanying

All children under 7 years old must be accompanied by one responsible adult over 18 years old to a ratio of 1 adult: 2 children. All adults must adhere to our health and safety guidelines and follow the instructions of the Wild Child leader.

Adults are responsible for their children at all times. The Wild Child Leader cannot be responsible for a child at any time during the accompanied sessions.

Accompanying adults must not be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Adults will be responsible for their own behaviour and the behaviour of the children they are accompanying. Anybody who is affecting the safety or enjoyment of the event will be asked to leave and no refund will be given.

Party & Private Bookings Specific

We recommend you ensure your guests arrive at least 5 minutes before the agreed start time of the party as lateness will result in lost time from the party which will run between the pre-agreed times only. If guests are late, the session will be shorter as it will still finish at the agreed time and will not be extended.

Those attending the party should wear clothing appropriate to the weather, wear sunscreen and apply insect repellant, have waterproofs with them and consider protection from nettles and brambles with suitable footwear (wellies or boots are recommended) and layers, as per the suggested guidelines email which is sent to you along with the invoice and booking confirmation. The customer is responsible for informing their guests of this guidance in advance.

For most party sessions, children under 7 years old must be accompanied by one responsible adult over 18 years old to a ratio of 1 adult: 2 children unless otherwise agreed with us at time of booking. All adults must adhere to our health and safety guidelines and follow the instructions of the Wild Child leader.

For parties where children may attend without an accompanying parent (children must be age 7+) the parent booking the party is responsible for collecting and contacting all parents/carers and must have an accessible up-to-date list of contact details for parents/carers, dietary/medical requirements and photo consent.
